Project: Next Generation e-Passport (Nova Geração de Passaportes Eletrónicos)
Partners: EVOLEO Technologies, IT – Institute of Telecommunications
Schedule: (01/07/2012 – 30/06/2015)
The objective of this project is the development of an advanced security platform (hardware and embedded software) for use with the next generation of electronic passports (third and fourth generation) which is currently being discussed by the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization).
The technology associated with these new passports presents a paradigm of radical change that the platform will demonstrate, such as the ability to run services dedicated to e-government (e-Visa) or for private use (ticket for transport services) and the use of asymmetric cryptography for authentication services. The platform will not only allow to assess the features planned for the new generation of passports as well as serve as a test platform for new services to be developed under the NEWP@SS project.
The platform will consist of a set of hardware and software modules that constitute a universal reader of electronic documents and a computer support network – that simulates a real-world scenario with authentication servers, acquirer authorities and online service servers (eg. Electronic trade) and end customers that simulate attackers and legitimate users.
